Holden School is the only K-12 “Remote but Necessary” school in Washington State. Nestled up Lake Chelan and bordering the North Cascades Wilderness  Area, the school serves the families on staff with the Lutheran Retreat Center, Holden Village. Due to this, class size and grade levels for students change from year to year. The staff for Holden School holds the same degree and certification requirements that all teachers need to possess. Boarding Students are accepted through the Village. 

Teaching at Holden holds both challenges (stoking the fires at 5:30 AM, no phone service and power disruptions throughout the winter) and many celebrations. With terrific mentoring in the Village, and a rigorous academic portfolio, students leave Holden not only with strong academic skills but a self confidence and maturity not easily found in today’s graduates.
