HIGH SCHOOL

A Unique Experience

Quote:

True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.

The High school students at Holden range from grade 7 through 12. Students take the standard core subjects of English, History, Math, and Science, and also take electives. Electives have included Spanish, French, Greek, Norwegian, P.E, Art, Handbells, and Drama. Students mainly rely on the teacher for academic help, but also take advantage of the many talents of those on staff. Villagers have filled the roles of math tutor, yearbook advisor, drama instructor, Norwegian teacher, and piano teacher. Students also learn from people who are in the village as guests. In the past, students have met with marine biologists, exchange students from Afghanistan, students from Australia, scientists testing the health of the creek, singer-songwriter Josh Ritter, and a woman who worked with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Palestine. Not only are students exposed to a wide range of experiences and jobs, they also are able to get more out of their education and learn more from an individualized classroom.

Boarding Students

Boarding students are accepted in 11th and 12th grade. Students must be willing to live in an intentional community and be away from home. Former boarding students have expressed how glad they are they decided to become boarding students and that it was an amazing experience that can’t be duplicated.
