Present:                Jim Busey, Jim Colbert, Ken Brunner, Siri Tift, Leah Thompson, Lynda Foster, Scott Renick, Larry Hibbard, Jon Gores, Pat Flannery, Scott Logan, Arnie Pipkin, Guy Harper, Barb Wadkins, Eric Page, Ed Merriman and Sondra Jacobson

 

Highlights of the March 12, 2008 special board meeting included the following:

 

  • Thanked Barb Wadkins and Siri Tift for their leadership in successfully passing the bond issue.

 

  • Discussed Classified Employees week to be held March 10 through the 14 and were invited to attend a breakfast on March 17 to honor the classified and certified employee of the year.

 

  • Reviewed a preliminary bond issue project schedule with Larry Hibbard.

 

  • Discussed required access roads on district property, sewer and water lines as per city regulations.

 

  • Listened to a presentation by Arnie Pipkin.

 

  • Discussed timelines for the bond sales and the financing plan with Jon Gores, D.A. Davidson.

 

  • Received copies of the certified election results.

 

  • Congratulated Jeff Peck for receiving the WASA “Most Effective Administrator” award.

 

  • Received a copy of a letter to parents from KC Craven designed to help students be successful on the WASL.

 

  • Received the WASL schedule for reading and writing tests by Barry DePaoli, MS/HS Principal.

 

  • Were provided the results of the Sub District FFA leadership competition by Rod Cool.

 

  • Discussed the recent article in the newspaper written by Kel Groseclose.

 

  • Agreed to complete the superintendent’s 2nd evaluation of the year in April.

 

  • Were reminded to complete the Public Disclosure forms by 4/15/08.

 

  • Discussed spring parent/teacher conferences.

 

  • Cancelled the 4/8/08 work session to attend the Employee of the Year banquet in Leavenworth on that evening.

 

  • Were advised that Coach/Activity negotiations will begin Wednesday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m.

 

  • Discussed the Kato City trip.

 

  • Heard that lawn care bids for 2008 and 2009 will be brought to the board at their next meeting.

 

  • Participated in board training entitled “School Board Liability” provided by Pat Flannery, Canfield and Associates.
