SPECIAL BOARD MEETING- OCTOBER 9, 2007

Highlights
of the special board meeting on October 9, 2007 included the following:
- Hosted a meeting
that included city council and hospital board representatives to discuss
opportunities to collaborate.
- Discussed the
upcoming school district bond issue to be run February 19, 2008 to include up to $100,000 of upgrades to
address safety issues related to the sound booth in the PAC, pending bond
issue approval.
- Discussed the
amended Interlocal Agreement between the City of Chelan and the Lake Chelan School District to include the Naumes property, pending review
by the district’s legal council.
- Discussed plans to
review and update the district’s Strategic Plan and invited both the city
council and hospital board members to attend a meeting on October 20 at
Campbell’s to give input.
- Encouraged the City
to become more involved in the Kato City Exchange program and agreed to
send a letter to Council members.
- Were asked to
consider consolidation of the Manson and Chelan schools.
- Discussed the recent
meeting held with the Manson School board to discuss ways the districts can work together to share
resources to save taxpayer dollars and provide additional opportunities
for our students.
- Listened to a
community member discuss the possibility of the City deeding the golf
course property to the school district and the Naumes property being considered as a hospital site.
- Asked for input and
suggestions from both the council members and hospital board members to
better prepare for the bond election and campaign.
- Heard that the
Hospital Board is in the process of seeking a new CEO and will reassess
their bond issue after the new person is hired.
- Discussed the
shortage of occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech,
language pathologists in the community and ways to share staff between the
hospital and district.
- Discussed options
related to the secondary/emergency access road for the Naumes property.
- Heard that the 6th
grade Holden trip may be scheduled a week after Memorial Day.
- Heard that October
enrollment shows we are up 10 students more than September and typical for
this time of year. Bilingual and
special education enrollment is up and there are 27 running start and 22
online learning students.
- Attended an open
house at Glacier Valley and Chelan Prepatory High Schools.
