Highlights from the board meeting on September 26, 2006 include the following:

 

Approved the minutes from August 22 and September 12, 2006.

 

Discussed school activities and school related meetings that they recently attended.

 

Heard that Barry DePaoli and Jim Busey met with high school ASB officers to discuss the ASB officer’s advisory role at future board meetings.

 

Were introduced to Jorge Lopez, Rosa Cruz and Javier Pastor.  Heard that Jorge is encouraging Hispanic parents to attend board meetings in an advisory capacity.

 

Listened to Pete Phillips, ESD Technology Director, give a technology update and future goals/plans.

 

Discussed with Larry Hibbard capital project items needed in Lake Chelan School District.

 

Discussed on-line learning opportunities through Advanced Academics and heard from Tori Greiner Shelton about the class their daughter Anna is taking.

 

Were informed about an invitation sent to parents to attend a meeting on October 18 to discuss the possibility of developing a Parent Partnership Program as an alternative to our traditional school program.

 

Were provided a list of the PLT Cohort Committee members by school building.

 

Were given a copy of the draft news release regarding the hybrid bus.

 

Heard that Rotary Club sponsored eight scholarships for 5th grade students which will help pay the rental fee for instruments to they may receive band instruction.

 

Reviewed North Central Washington test score comparisons for 2006 for 3rd, 5th, 6th and 8th grades in reading and math.

 

Are registered to attend the WSSDA Conference in Spokane November 15-18.

 

Received M&O notes from the September 14th M&O Committee meeting.

 

Have set the City Council/Joint School Board meeting for October 10th to begin at 5 p.m.

 

Received the Superintendent Evaluation form to complete the 1st Superintendent evaluation for 06/07.

 

Heard that enrollment is down 27 students from September of last year and 14 down from our estimated budget figures.

 

Heard that middle school open house was held on September 20th and the elementary will hold theirs on September 28.

 

Were invited to attend the Past Board Member luncheon on October 11th.

 

Listened to Barry DePaoli, Secondary Principal, discuss the late start agenda at the secondary building and plans for their accreditation process.

 

Heard the food service report from Trish Nichols, Food Service Supervisor.

 

Listened to Jeff Peck, Elementary Principal, discuss feedback regarding late start and the elementary restructured staff meetings and discussions.  They will also be working on the accreditation process this year.

 

Randy Gleasman, Vice Principal, gave a report and shared concerns from parents about the eligibility checks being so soon after the beginning of the school year.

 

Listened to the August 2006 financial report given by Don Forseth, Business Manager.

 

Approved the payables and payroll for the month of September.

 

Approved hiring Jay McGuffin, Head HS wrestling coach; Donna Zavala, 2 hrs dishwasher ongoing position, .50 dishwasher/3.0 assistant cook (F & V grant) 1 year only; Greg Cowell, Assistant football coach – based on numbers; Phil Harvey, Assistant football coach – based on numbers; Liz Martinez, Elementary secretary-5 hours per day;  Chris Glasspool, 4 hour per day custodian; Nikki Haerling, 8th grade assistant volleyball; Alberto Granados, Bilingual Para educator; Nedra Dayton, International Club; Jose Mendoza, Half time custodian (4 hours per day); Linda Reister, MS Memory Book; Janet Smoldon, HS Annual and to accept resignations from Julia Schwartz, 8th grade volleyball assistant; Bob Johnson, MS memory book; Rich Holloway, 2nd high school assistant softball; Pat Chism,  2nd middle school assistant wrestling; and Phil Clausen, bus driver (retiring). 

 

Approved the annual 6th grade to trip to Holden Village.
