BOARD CLIPS

SEPTEMBER 12, 2006

Present: Jim Busey, Ken Brunner, Siri Tift, Leah Thompson, Jim Colbert, Barry DePaoli, Jeff Peck, Mike James, Claudia Chism, Karen Wegner, Jennifer Marshall and Sondra Jacobson

Highlights from the board work session on September 12, 2006 include the following:

ü Board reports were given by Ken Brunner, who watched the junior varsity football and was impressed with their hard work. Siri and Barb had attended the Duane Baker presentation.

ü Heard that the superintendent is working with the high school ASB officers to define their role at board meetings and he and Larry Bowers, Programs Director, are working to recruit Hispanic advisors.

ü Were informed that the PSE contract was signed covering a three-year period and the PSE President, Claudia Chism attended the Cashmere fair.

ü Listened to a review of staff training that was provided and plans for future training.

ü Reviewed WASL scores with regional comparisons and state averages. Were also given a report showing special education, Hispanic, GVHS and the Nite Prep scores.

ü Preliminary enrollment reports show that we are down approximately 31 FTE students from last year at this same time.

ü Were provided students lists for Choice In, Choice Out and Home School.

ü Discussed the School Improvement Planning/Accreditation process.

ü Heard that plans are being made to celebrate the 100-year graduation in 2007.

ü Were invited to attend the elementary and middle school open house.

ü Reviewed recently adopted Policy 2021: Library Media Centers.

ü Agreed to Set January 6, 207 for the Board/Administrator Retreat at Campbell’s from 8-4 with plans to complete a 2006/2007 mid year evaluation and Strategic Plan review and March 16 and 17 for the 2007/2008 Board Planning Retreat.

ü Heard that 9/20/06 is National ADHD Observation Day and information will be provided to all district staff.

ü The next levy meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 7 a.m. at the district office with plans to discuss preschool models and the dollars needed to sustain the afters program at the conclusion of the Century 21 grant.

ü Were invited to attend the Board Superintendent Roundtable meeting on 9/21/06 at 7 a.m. at the high school.

ü Were invited to attend the first quarterly staff breakfast meeting on October 11 at 7 a.m.
