SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

Present:                Jim Busey, Barb Wadkins, Ken Brunner, Siri Tift, Leah Thompson, Don Forseth, Jeff Peck, Larry Bowers, Barry DePaoli, Randy Gleasman, Trish Nichols, Mike James, Rosa Cruz, Lupe Sanchez, Joanna Suarez, Tom Clark, Jennifer Marshall, Heather Fox, Mark Hyde (Superintendent, Waterville)

 

Highlights from the special board meeting on October 24, 2006 include the following:

 

Approved the minutes of September 26, 2006 and October 10, 2006.

 

Heard a recommendation from Tom Clark, community member, that the board pursue acquiring the 136 acres currently used as a golf course to build new schools. 

 

Listened to a report from Joanna Suarez, ASB President, about recent activities at the high school and upcoming events.

 

Heard Heather Fox discuss Powerful Teaching and Learning strategies, STAR Protocol and professional development taking place in the district.

 

Made a visitation to Glacier Valley High School.

 

Received an update on the accreditation/ School Improvement Plans and progress at each of the buildings.

 

Discussed on-line learning progress and heard that the high school should be prepared to offer online courses second semester.

 

Discussed Parent/Teacher conferences.

 

Reviewed the district’s limited English and low-income student test scores with Larry Bowers, Special Programs Director.

 

Reviewed the district and Chelan County Treasurer’s financial reports for the month of September with the Business Manager, Don Forseth.

 

Discussed the requests for the upcoming M&O and costs related to each.

 

Approved the payables and payroll for the month of October.

 

Approved hiring Karen Wegner, Knowledge Bowl advisor; Steve Bovingdon, Jr. Class Coordinator; Terri Christensen, bus driver; Amy Young Cherise Lehmbecker, Christina Wright, Bob Soost, Jeanne Pusey, Lori Smythe, Debbie Housley, Janet Smolden, Dan Quigley, and John Ryan, elementary enrichment afters and to accept the resignation from Leonor Ramirez, bilingual Para educator.

 

Visited the Nite Prep High School program.
