Early
Life
While attending Chelan High School, Tom was very active.
He was a member of the tennis and intramural basketball
teams. He was a talented musician, participating in the
Pep Band, Concert Band, and Trumpet Trio. Tom was also
involved in the Annual and Drama Clubs.
Upon Graduating from high school in 1959, Tom enrolled
at Central Washington University. He graduated in 1964
with a B.A. in education, a major in business and a minor
in economics. He worked as a business education teacher
in the Highline School District and Highline Community
College for the next three years, until 1967. Tom then
enrolled in graduate school at CWU while continuing to
work. He was a business education teacher and assistant
tennis coach at Eastmont High School and instructor at
the Wenatchee Valley College Night School Program from
1967-68. From 1968-73, Tom was the Vocational Director
and Athletic Director for the Eastmont School District.
Meanwhile, he received his Masters Degree in education
in 1970.
Adulthood
Even after acquiring his Masters, Tom sought more education.
He studied for his K-12 principal credentials from 1971-74
at CWU. From 1981-85, he pursued graduate work, a superintendent
internship, and superintendent credentials at the University
of Washington. In 1989, Tom completed his Continuing Superintendent
Certificate.
During all this education, Tom continued to work in North
Central Washington schools. After his years at the Eastmont
School District, he held many administrative jobs. He
was a principal in the Leavenworth and Cashmere districts.
After receiving his superintendent credentials, Tom was
Superintendent of the Quincy School District for 11 years
and the Chelan School District for 3 years. Since 1996,
Tom has been a Risk Manager for Canfield and Associates.
Tom has been active in many community and education organizations.
He was a WIAA representative, as well as the regional
District 6 President. Later, he was a WIAA Executive Board
Member, Vice President, and President. Tom was the NCW
“AA” league president, and was on the executive
board of the Washington Secondary Schools Athletic Administrators
Association. Tom has been an influential part of the Rotary
Club, Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce in various communities.
