FFA tradition aids CHS alum Tyler Dublin

National FFA week is a celebratory occasion for over half a million members in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The Chelan chapter planned many events for the week of February 16-22: Project Pals, Greenhand Initiation, Pride Day and radio promotions; but none more exciting than the annual Donkey Basketball game. This year, the game took place on Thursday, February 21 at 7:00 PM in the Community Gym.
In 2008 all the proceeds from Donkey Basketball went to Tyler Dublin, a former Chelan FFA member, to divert the medical costs he incurred after a car accident he was involved in. The turnout was great, the fundraiser a huge success. The FFA met their goal of $700.00 in presales and donations, and received even more from ticket sales at the door. More than $1,000 was raised by the end of the night, and presented to

Tyler by Sammi Jo Cool and Breanne Hanson, who coordinated the game. The FFA met their goal of $700.00 in presales and donations, and received even more from ticket sales at the door. Ten donkeys, from Donkey Sports Inc. in Entiat, made an appearance at the gym. The premise is to play four ten-minute quarters. FFA members, based on the top 20 pre-sale ticket sellers, got to ride five at a time against representatives from the staff, cheerleaders, ASB, FBLA, FCCLA, Miss Lake Chelan, Med Club and TATU.
Unfortunately, the FFA lost the game but the big winner was Tyler. If you didn’t make it out this year, don’t miss the game next year!

That Doesnt Look
Like Mr. Roberts!

Have you noticed a new face in the hallway this semester? It’s Mrs. Carboneau, who came on board at semester to replace Mr. Roberts. Mrs. Carboneau was gracious enough to give up her spring to join us at CHS and has
taken over Mr. Roberts’ English IV, English II, and English I courses. She actually lives in Snohomish, but has made a temporary home here in Chelan while she finishes the semester. She earned her Master’s Degree from Seattle University, and enjoys cross country skiing, reading, exercising, biking, and hiking. Next time you see her in the hallway, be sure to give her a warm Chelan welcome!
