Rehearsal Participation:

Up to five points daily may be earned during rehearsals.  Students who come prepared for rehearsals, follow procedures (as outlined in the CMD Student Handbook), and model appropriate language and behavior during rehearsals will earn these points easily.

Performances:

Since band and choir are performance based classes, all performances throughout the school year are required and graded.  Excused Absence from a Performance:  In order for an absence from a required performance to be excused, the student must complete a Request for Excused Absence form.  This form should be handed in as soon as possible prior to the performance, unless the absence is unforeseen, in which case the student is responsible for filling out the form and turning it in no later than two days after they return to school.  Turning in the form does not guarantee that the absence will be excused.  If an absence is deemed excused, the student will then qualify to make up for lost points by completing a make-up assignment.  This assignment will vary depending on the point value of the required performance.

Quizzes, Homework & In Class Assignments:

Quizzes may be written or playing/singing exams.  The point scale for the playing/singing exams is listed above.  Playing quizzes may be retaken during the students own time to improve their score.  Listening journals and other in class assignments will be a part of the regular music curriculum and may include the following: music critiques, music theory, music history, ear training, worksheets, and notation exercises.

Practice at Home:

Each member of the band/choir is encouraged to practice for at least 60 min per week.  Band students are expected to take their instruments home on occasion during the week and most importantly on the weekends.  Those who are the most successful maintain a daily practice schedule and meet this minimum requirement in short/frequent session, rather than long infrequent sessions.
