CMD 7/8 Concert Band Audition 2006

 

Auditions are required for placement into concert band, and will be one of your first grades this semester (100 pts. Pass/Fail).  I need to be acquainted with your musical abilities in order to adequately place everyone in the most appropriate roles for this coming year.  Please submit the following:

 

  • Audio Tape
  • Labeled in ink with your name, instrument, and year.
  • Record your name, instrument, and year before you play your audition.
  • TELL ME WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFOEE YOU PLAY EACH ITEM, AND COUNT OFF A STEADY TEMPO OUT LOUD.  

 

Audition Material

  • Scales:
    • Play the following scales in quarter notes, up and down, in two octaves where possible, quarter note = 92.
      • Concert B Flat
      • Concert F
      • Concert C
      • Chromatic
        • In eighth notes from as low as you know to as high as you know, within reason.

  • Etude:
  • Flutes:
    • Pick-up to #2 – End #3
  • Oboe:
    • Pick-up to #3 – End #4(TOP)
  • Clarinet:
    • Beginning –  #1
  • Bass Clarinet:
    • Pick-up to #4 – #7
  • Alto Sax:
    • Beginning –  #1 (TOP)
  • Tenor Sax:
    • Pick-up to #4 – #5
  • Baritone Sax:
    • #4 – #6

 

  • French Horn:
    • Beginning – #1
  • Trumpet:
    • Pick-up to #4 – #5
  • Euphonium:
    • Pick-up to #4 – #5
  • Trombone:
    • Pick-up to #5– #7
  • Tuba:
    • Pick-up to #4 – #7
  • Percussion:
    • Beginning – #9
    • Letter D – 2 before E
