Washington State FFA

Citizenship Award Program

Each year, the Washington FFA Association offers the opportunity for its members to participate in an essay contest to exercise both their writing abilities and their First-Amendment rights.  Often, it is an unrealized privilege that youth in America have citizenship rights that many of their global peers lack.  We have intentionally selected a topic that leaves a broad interpretation for writers to formulate their thoughts on the annual subject.

To celebrate the free speech and citizenship privileges afforded to us as Americans, the Washington State FFA Foundation has sponsored this essay program.  All dues-paying members in good standing are eligible to participate, from grades 6-12.  At least one $100 prize will be awarded during the State FFA Convention.  If sponsorship permits, prizes may be expanded to multiple places or grade divisions.  The top-ranked essay winner will also have the honor of reading their speech on-stage at the annual Convention in Pullman, Washington.

All work must be original writings of the member.  We encourage editorial support of your agriculture, agriscience and English language instructors for the best possible results.  All essays are to be RECEIVED by the State FFA Office by May 1, 2008.

Please submit the following sheet only—no cover pages or protectors, please—with your required materials—to the following address:
