News Release

For Immediate Release—The 2007 Washington State FFA Apple Career Development Event were held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Washington State Horticultural Association in Wenatchee on December 5^th at the Wenatchee Convention Center. Thirteen Chelan FFA members competed in the CDE and brought home three plaques.

Chelan Team #1, the Chelan Falls All Stars, was made up of Dia Galvan, Sammi Jo Cool, Daneijha Weigel, Chelsea Gocke, and Tucker Cool earned a fourth place plaque. Chelan Team #2, Chantel Neilsen, Wesley Field, Zaren Sandum, Andrew Jones, and Johnny Griffith earned a seventh place plaque. Dia Galvan had a stellar performance earned a seventh place individual plaque. Other competitors for Chelan were Brieceda Blanco, Zac Sandum, and Ross Young.

21 teams from 13 FFA Chapters from around Washington State were represented in the event sponsored by the Washington Apple Education Association, Stemilt Growers, and Van Doren, Inc. The Lake Chelan Fieldmen’s Association coordinated the CDE and the eight skill areas including Fruit Maturity, Variety Identification, Blemish Identification, Red Grading, Fuji Grading, Golden Grading, Tray Judging, and Entomology.

This CDE completed the fall season for the Chelan FFA. They earned six plaques in three state competitions this fall—Apples, Tractor Operation, and Horse Selection and Evaluation. FFA members will now gear up the for the spring season of Leadership and Skill CDEs.
