For Immediate Release –10 more members of the Chelan FFA punched their ticket to the 78th Annual Washington State FFA Convention on the campus of Washington State University in Pullman on May 14th –18th.  By virtue of their finish in the District VII First Year CDE, both teams from the Chelan Chapter will advance to State competition.

The First Year CDE requires contestants to complete a 50 question test on FFA Knowledge, General Plant Science, General Animal Science, Agriculture Industry Knowledge, and Parliamentary Procedure.  The test is a team test and members are allowed to use 1 textbook, the FFA Student Handbook, the FFA Official Manual, and the Farm Bureau Farm Facts.  The team has 25 minutes to complete the test.

Then the five member teams are given a scenario which requires them to discuss an issue and prepare a presentation and deliver the presentation to judges.  The team is evaluated on how well they use small group dynamic skills, the quality of their decisions, the group planning process, and how well they deliver the presentation.  They have to accomplish all of this in 10 minutes and then answer 5 minutes of questions.

The team of Matt Pittsinger, Zaren Sandum,  Mikiya Stowe, Chantel Neilson, and Sammi Jo Cool earned the second place banner. The team of Jorge Villasenor, Tommy Moro, Bree Burton, April Rosas, and Jane Horlebein placed fourth to advance to state.  Eastmont earned the first place banner and Tonasket was third.  Other teams represented included Omak, Wenatchee, and Bridgeport FFA Chapter who hosted the event.
