News Release

3 May 08

For Immediate Release – The University of Washington Forest Products Laboratory Pack Forest just South of Eatonville was the site of the 2008 Washington State FFA Forestry Career Development Event. Two teams from the Chelan FFA traveled to compete with FFA Chapters from all around the state.

The members competed in Tree Identification, Forestry Tool Identification, Forest Disease and Entomology, General Forestry Knowledge, Compass and Pacing, and a Fixed Plot Timber Cruising team practicum.

The team of Tyler Allen, Jesse Allen, Curtis Pusey, Tucker Cool and Blake Soreano earned the third place team plaque with Tyler Allen picking up a fourth place plaque for individuals and Curtis Pusey earning an eighth place individual plaque, as well.

The team of Ross Young, Zach Sandum, Chelsea Gocke, Tim Stockdale, and Gerrick Lutz finished tenth in the fourteen team field representing eight chapters from around the state. Mt. Baker was first team, with Colville second, Mary M. Knight fourth, Wake Robin fifth, Mt. Baker 2 sixth, Elma seventh, and Wenatchee earning the eighth place team plaque.

Chelan FFA members will now put the finishing touches on preparations for the 78^th Washington State FFA Convention held at Washington State University in Pullman on May 14^th- 18^th. Chelan members will compete in Livestock Evaluation, Meats Evaluation, Agriculture Sales, Agriculture Issues Forum, Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Farm Business Management, Creed Speaking, Marketing Plan, and First Year Career Development Events.
