For Immediate Release—Beautiful fall days and cool crisp mornings were the setting for the 2007 edition of the Chelan County Fair in Cashmere.  The Chelan FFA was represented by over 250 exhibits in the FFA Horticulture, Agriculture Mechanics, Agronomy, Home Produced Products, Educational Display, Beef, Poultry. and Swine Classes, as well as, Open Class Horticulture.

 

Seven members exhibited Market Hogs including Dia Galvan, Briceida Blanco, Breanne Hanson, Chelsea Gocke, Tyler Clark, Wesley Field, and Ross Young.  All of them received blue ribbons in the market class judging on Thursday signifying that all their pigs were US No. 1 Market Hogs.  Wesley, Chelsea, and Breanne won their classes and moved into the Championship Drive at the end of the day.  In the Fitting and Showing Classes on Friday,  all exhibitors earned blue ribbons, with Tyler, Chelsea, and Breanne all making the finals and Breanne making the cut from 28 to 6 ending up third overall in Swine Showmanship.  Saturday morning prior to the sale Breanne Hanson was awarded the FFA Swine Supreme Showman award which is determined by how each showman places in threeTwenty two members of the Chelan FFA were joined by five members of the Manson FFA for the 4:00 AM bus ride to Puyallup for the Washington State FFA Exposition Career Development Events at the Western Washington State Fair.  Members competed in the Washington State Tractor Driving CDE, Livestock Evaluation CDE, and Dairy Evaluation CDE.

 

In the Washington State FFA Tractor Driving CDE, competitors have to complete a 50 question objective test on maintenance, safety, and operation and then complete a driving course.  The course requires members to negotiate a slalom course with a trailer in tow both forwards and backwards all within two minutes and thirty seconds.  Members are penalized for touching or knocking down a marker, unnecessary changes of direction, riding the clutch, or excessive braking.  The Chelan FFA was represented by the team of Tyler Clark who earned an 8th place individual plaque, Zaren Sandum, and Zach Sandum and earned the 5th place team plaque.

 

The other members of Chelan FFA who attended competed in Livestock and Dairy Evaluation CDEs.  In the dairy contest, they evaluated yearling Holstein heifers, junior Holstein heifers, Jersey Cows, and two classes of Holstein Cows, as well as, a pedigree class.  There were 98 teams in the competition; the Chelan teams placed 33rd, 34th, 46th, and 57th.  Brenda Galvan placed 20th individually out of over 480 competitors.

 

In the Livestock CDE,  members judged two classes each of beef, sheep, and swine.  The team of Tucker Cool, Ross Young, Tia Kimsey, Breanne Hanson, and Dillon Parker finished 12th out of 106 teams.  Other teams placed 27th, 45th, and 78th.  Other team members were Keanu Allen, Gerrick Lutz,  Antonio Galvan, Dia Galvan, Bricieda Blanco, Blake Soreano, Kaylee Robelia, Kacie Rahm, Leonie Stzab, and James Spradlin.
