For Immediate Release—The Chelan High School Agriculture Education Shop
was the site of the 2008 Edition of District VII “Barnyard Wars”. Eight teams representing four schools from
North Central Washington participated in this unique annual event.
The teams were made up of
four members and as a team they were given three surplus school desks, seven
surplus table legs, three wooden wheels and a fifteen foot chunk of rope. They had to then design and build a device to
lift a ninety pound weight using only the power of one of the team
members. Teams had only one trail to
lift the weight and each structure had to include an oxy-acetylene cut, gas
brazing bead, gas bead with rod, plasma cut, and MIG welding structural
joint.
The
Chelan team 2 was second
with a score of 325. Tonasket was 3rd.
Prizes for the
competitors were provided by All Seasons’ Rental, Kelly’s Hardware, NAPA Auto
Parts, Jerry’s Auto, and NORCO Welding Supply.
