For Immediate Release—Thirty eight first year members or greenhands were officially welcomed in the Chelan Chapter of the National FFA Organization.  Since 1930 all first year members in the chapter have dipped their hands in green dye in the traditional initiation in the FFA.  These 38 young people join the ranks of over 3500 other Chelan High School students who have been members of the Chelan FFA over the past 78 years.

Chelan was one of the nine Charter Chapters of the Washington FFA Association.

The Chelan FFA Chapter is 90 members strong and carries out a diverse program of activities that includes member development, chapter development, and community development activities.   The Chapter performs a variety of community service activities including Adopt a  Highway,  Project PALS (mentoring project with elementary students),  Toys for Tots,  Food Drive,  work with local service clubs and community organizations (Lions Club, Rotary International, and Chelan Rustlers), and Beebe Springs project.

Member Development activities include leadership training, Career Development Events, Animal Feed Purchasing Co-op,  SAE project development, and Agriculture Awareness Activities.  Chapter Development activities include fundraising such as the kestrel box project, District Basketball Concessions,  Spring Bedding Plant Sale,  the annual Parent-Member Banquet, and FFA Week Activities.
