Classroom and Laboratory Policy
Grading Policy
Student grades will be
based on the following criteria:
To receive a passing
grade, students must receive 60% of the total points possible.
Total points will be a
summation of all participation, quiz, test, shop, and project points.
Shop Points-students
will receive a daily sign-in grade and clean-up grade.
Written
assignments--to receive a passing grade, students must achieve 60% of the
points from assignments, tests, and plans.
All written assignments must be completed and turned in to receive a
passing grade.
Shop
Skill/Projects—Students must accomplish “B” work on shop skills and/or projects
to advance to the next skill/project.
Students may make up
shop time missed by attending open shop time or making arrangements with the
instructor.
Make up work will be
allowed only if arranged with the instructor.
It is the responsibility of the student to make such an arrangement.
Extra-credit may be
given at the discretion of the instructor.
Attendance
Students are expected
to be in class every day. If a student
does miss class, it is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor
about any assignments and/or make-up work.
Student Behavior
Students will behave
in accordance with established school rules (student handbook) at all times,
whether in the classroom, laboratory, shop, or on field trips. Students must follow the directions of the
instructor. Students failing to follow
established school rules or those established by the instructor may be removed
form the class or placed on the discipline code or both.
Shop Safety Rules
No Horseplay.
Use all equipment
properly and in the manner in which you were taught by the instructor.
Safety Glasses will
worn at all times.
For a safety
violation, students will receive one verbal warning and a notation in the
sign-in book. For a second violation,
students will receive a 3 day loss of shop privileges. For any further safety violations students
will be removed from the class and placed on the discipline code, if
appropriate.
In the case of gross
safety violations, students may be removed from the class and placed on the
discipline code at the discretion of the instructor.
Student Equipment
Students will need to
provide the following personal safety equipment to participate in shop
activities:
Safety glasses or
goggles
Coveralls (long sleeve and in serviceable condition)
Leather shoes (non
flammable)
Optional Safety

Ear Plugs
Welding Gloves
Shop Duties
Students will work on
a rotation basis spending at least one week as Shop Foreman, Clean-up Foreman,
or Tool Man.
Shop Foreman—is
responsible for taking roll and attending to sign-in book.
Clean-up Foreman—is
responsible for shop clean-up each day and grades other students on their
assigned areas.
Tool Man—is
responsible for the tool room and equipment repair. During his/her week in the tool room he/she
will be responsible for signing out tools and making sure that they are
returned, maintain a clean tool room, and to make minor repairs to shop
equipment, as needed.
Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE)
Students will receive
instruction on developing an Supervised Agriculture Experience project or
SAE. SAEs provide students with extended
learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
They may involve production, placement, entrepreneurship, improvement,
research, or service activities.
Students are required to develop an SAE plan and document a minimum of
20 hours of work on that SAE throughout the semester. Quality SAE development and implementation
strengthens the coursework and applies knowledge and skills in a real world
situations.
FFA Membership
Students will receive
leadership instruction and training for various career development events
(CDEs). These CDEs are sanctioned events
sponsored by the National FFA Organization, State FFA Association, and the
local chapter. Students are encouraged
to join the Chelan FFA and participate in leadership, community service, and
career related activities.
