THE PURPOSE OF THE PORTFOLIO IS
TO EXHIBIT WORK THAT YOU FEEL DOES ONE OR SEVERAL OF THE FOLLOWING: a) shows your growth from beginning to end,
b) shows an exceptional grasp of the subject matter, or c) is the best representative sample from
that unit.
1.
Include one or two of your best pieces of work from each unit. See class syllabus for units.
2.
Each unit needs a title page with the name of the unit and the EALRs
that are met in this unit. For instance:
Writing 3; The student
understands and uses the steps of the writing process. Artwork, graphics and/or appropriate poetry
or prose should also be included on the title page.
3. The portfolio can take several
different forms: standard notebook, large portfolio folder or portfolio
box. Each of the portfolio pieces needs
a cover page explaining in detail what the piece is, why you have included it
in your portfolio, and the EALR specific to the piece. For example:
For the Abortion Essay; Writing
1.2 use style appropriate to the audience and purpose, Writing 2.2 write for
different purposes, Writing 3.1 prewrite, Writing 3.2 draft, Writing 3.3
revise, Writing 3.4 edit, and Writing
3.5 publish.

(June 9th for seniors). If they are not
claimed, they will be recycled or kept as examples.

OPTION: If you have
not been conscientiously keeping an item from each unit, you may substitute the
following for #1, #2 and #3 above:
1. FOR EACH UNIT
MISSED, write a detailed description of the material covered in that unit. Include with the description the most
important ideas/skills you learned from that unit. Also include a listing of the EALRs that were
used during the course of that unit. ( Your daily log would be a good source
for what happened each day during the unit.

records…)
2. EACH OF THE
PORTFOLIO PIECES needs a cover page giving the name of the unit and artwork, a
poem, or a cartoon relating to subject matter in that unit.
