Daily Work (30%):
You
are to try all the homework problems on the first night so you can ask
questions the next class day. Homework
will be due two days after it is assigned.
We will usually correct homework in class, and you will correct your own
work. This is an opportunity for you to
see where you are having problems. I
will grade your homework not only for correctness, but also for effort and
completion. YOU MUST ALWAYS SHOW YOUR WORK.
Because you have ample time to complete your homework, it should be
perfect - neatly written, precise drawings using a ruler, and correct
solutions. Late assignments are worth
50%. Homework is due at the time I ask for it, not at the end of the period or
end of the day. It is in your best
interest to do all the assignments, late or on time. Problems from the assignments do show up on
tests and quizzes. In addition, a
chapter packet will be collected the day of the chapter test, consisting of “Deep Thoughts” (journal writing), class warm-ups and notes (dates in
the margin!!). Assignments are usually
scored as a 0-10. Do not use pen!
Quizzes (30%):
Quizzes may be pre-arranged or
pop. Don't worry,
you'll get a hint when one is coming. I
will often give quizzes with material from the previous night’s homework.
Quizzes will give you an idea of what the test will look like. You need to make up quizzes before or after
school immediately upon your return from an absence (negotiable depending on
length of absence). If you do not earn
at least a 70% on your quiz, you have the opportunity to retake the quiz within
one week. After a retake, the two quiz
scores are averaged, with a maximum obtainable score of 70% recorded for your
grade.
Tests (40%):
You'll get one of these every couple
weeks. You need to make up tests before or after school immediately upon your
return from an absence (negotiable depending on length of absence). If you do not earn at least a 70% on your test,
you have the opportunity to retake the test within one week. After a retake, the two test scores are
averaged, with a maximum obtainable score of 70% recorded for your grade.
¨ “Second Chance” tests and quizzes will be
offered before or after school, or Fridays at lunch. You may not miss other classes in order to
retake a test or quiz. If you retake a
test or quiz before school, you must finish before the start of first period.
¨ I will
frequently conduct spot checks for materials (book, calculator) and assignment
completion. For example, if I have given
20 minutes of work time, and you’re on problem #1, you will earn a 0/10 for
that assignment. If I ask to see your
calculator, and you have it with you, you will earn a 10/10 for that assignment.
¨ Assignments
are always written on the board. You
are responsible for making these up on your own. I will not track you down to give you make-up
assignments. Likewise, you
are responsible for scheduling time before and after school to make up missed
tests and quizzes. Quizzes and tests may
only be made up for excused absences.
¨ Don’t expect to go on a field trip if your current grade is
an F.
