COURSE OUTLINE
FOR
Building and
Trades
(Advanced
Woodshop)
Course description: The purpose of this course is to broaden and enhance student’s
woodworking skills. These skills include safety, tool usage, plans, and project
building techniques, advanced problem solving (application of physics), clean
up…etcetera.
Instructor: Mr. Quick
Materials needed: Safety glasses with Z87 stamp (no
tinted lenses), and a three ring binder. Wood for “class” projects is provided.
*Wood for “personal” projects is purchased by the students and
brought to school. Students can order wood from various outside sources and
have it delivered to the school. Storage for wood will be provided. All wood
from home must be inspected by instructor (no used wood unless approved).
Student responsibilities:
1. Students must
conduct themselves in a safe and productive manor at all times in this course.
Attendance is part of your grade (see grading procedures).
2. Every student
must participate in all projects.
3. All projects
must be approved by the instructor before construction begins.
Course
content:
In
this course students will form a company in which products will be developed
and manufactured. Students will learn ISO9000 manufacturing techniques as well
as standard business management practices. We will use think tank strategies to
brainstorm product ideas. Then we will design, develop, and test prototypes. Next
we will use assembly line practices to manufacture the product. Lastly we will
market/distribute the product.

are based on three areas: Safety
Sign off Sheet = 20%
Project
Quality = 50%
Work
Ethic = 30%
Grades are determined by “Honest
self evaluation,” “Peer evaluation,” and “Instructor evaluation.”
