Since October fourth and fifth graders
have had the opportunity to read the Young Reader’s Choice Books. These six titles are Tale the Despereaux,
The Mayor of Central Park, Gregor the Overlander, Granny
Torrelli, Rodzina, and Kenzuke’s Kingdom. Eighty-five students participated this year
with thirty-five completing at least three books. Those completing at least
three books were invited to the ”voting” party held in
the MOE Library. Eighteen students
completed all six books and were treated to a bowling party on March 31st. These students were Ariel Adamson, Jordan
Combridge, Courtney Dietrich, Shelby Dietrich, Maddison Dietrich, Aleea
Ferguson, Sarah Fletcher, Madison George, Hailey Habich, Erick Oscarson, Andrea
Rainey, Emily Schramm, Amanda Stewart, Lupe Villasenor, Hunter Wieffenbach,
Marisa Palazzo, Kaydi Scott, and Edith Negrete.
During the months of February and March all second and third
graders were invited to read ten Caldecott or Caldecott Honor
books. Since 1938 the Caldecott award
has been given nationally for the best picture book of the year. There was a
luncheon held at the MOE Library at the end of February and again the end of
March to honor those students who read ten books each month. Seventeen students completed ten Caldecott books
in February and thirty-nine students complete ten books in March. Nine students completed ten books in Feb. and
ten in March. Those students were Ericka
Arias, Alejandra Ramirez, Rubi Rivera, Kyle James, Salvador Gonzalez, Livan
Barajas,
Sarai Torres, Cleider Guillen, and Lupita Vieyra. Each student was also given a crocheted
bookworm. A big thank
you to Cathie Harris and Susan Rainey for helping crochet the bookworms.
