The counseling services provided at Morgen Owings Elementary
School are viewed as an essential and integral part of our
school's operations as well as the Lake Chelan School District's
effort to realize its vision and mission within our community.
Our program is guided by a district-wide counseling and guidance
plan which organizes a range of both direct and indirect services
into four delivery components:
Curriculum
Involves planned and structured learning activities within
class room, group, assembly, physical education and recess
settings designed to promote educational development, personal
and social development and career planning and exploration.
The counseling curriculum addresses numerous life skills or
strategies necessary for student and later life success. They
include personal and school-wide safety, violence prevention,
problem solving, decision making, goal setting, study skills,
self-awareness and self-management, cooperation, conflict
resolution, refusal skills, drug and alcohol awareness and
career exploration and preparation.
Individual
planning
Includes counseling and guidance activities to assist
all students to plan, monitor and manage their own learning
as well as their personal and career development.
Responsive
services
Include counseling or referral activities to meet the
immediate needs and concerns of students and parents. These
services include personal counseling, crisis counseling, agency
referral, consultation for parents, faculty and other professionals,
support groups and supervised peer mediation.
System
support
Includes
indirect management activities that maintain and enhance our
entire counseling and guidance program. Responsibilities include
staff, community and business relations, program management
and operations, research projects, committee work, professional
development, community out-reach and student support teams.
Within the above structures and through close collaboration
with students, staff and parents, the counseling department
at M.O.E. dedicates itself to achievement in (our goals for
S.Y. 2005-06) safety, accountability and attendance, curriculum
and communication. |
