A Word on Grading

A Bright Idea

A few years back a software developer designed a program that helps teachers track grades and calculate averages.  The name of this program is EasyGradePro® and we some teachers use this program here at Morgen Owings Elementary SchoolEasyGradePro® takes the guess work out of grading and eliminates human calculation errors.  In using EasyGradePro®, I can come to an objective, mathematical assessment of each student's academic performance.

Student's Part

I do not give out grades, grades are earned.  Each student works for his or her grade and I am responsible for finding the average of all their work.  I will work with any student who wants to help improve upon his/her academic record, but ultimately the students are in control of their own destiny.

Students are allowed to make up all missed and incomplete work before the end of the term.

Late is better than never!!!

Not All Work is Created Equal

It is my belief that a student's grade on a test is not equal to a grade on his/her homework.  Due to this belief I have created 4 different categories for student work that I usually use..  Each of the categories is weighted differently when calculated in the final average.  The categories and their weights are listed below.

bullet

Homework - 10%

bullet

Daily Work - 20%

bullet

Projects - 30%

bullet

Test - 40%

Different types of assignments might be listed in each of the categories.  For example, a poster might be weighted as a quiz or an essay might be weighted as a test.
