College Tours: The “GEAR UP “ Program has many
exciting events planned for this
year! On October 26th the entire 8th grade class will be participating in the
Career Fair at Manson Secondary. There will be presenters form 25 different Colleges
and professionals representing a variety of occupations and career fields. Students
will be doing pre and post activities
in the classrooms. After attending the Career Fair, students will be making a
2-3 minute oral presentation on one particular career pathway. High School Tutor Class: “Kids helping Kids” Mrs.
Dayton’s High School Tutoring class has eleven students enrolled. The
students are reading tutors in Mrs. Lewman and Mrs. Blair’s class. There is a
senior tutoring in Mr. McGuffin’s science class. Additionally,
the tutors are working on portfolios
and learning tutoring Strategies,
such as how to motivate students and how to give encouragement. Mrs. Dayton
is also working on getting her adjunct faculty status through Big Bend
Community College. Extended Day Tutoring (afterschool) The GEAR UP Extended Day program has joined forces with the
library tutorial program. We are currently offering tutoring in the library
to middle school and high school students. So far, there are two GEAR UP
tutors and a high school math tutor.
Attendance varies each day, but usually there are between 18-23
students from GEAR UP. This year
GEAR UP will not be serving 6th grade students. |
