Sixth grade Core includes Language Arts and Reading. The students will be involved in activities to develop their reading, writing and grammar skills. We will be using the following resources to help meet the Essential Learning requirements for sixth grade:

* Accelerated Writer

* Write Time For Kids

* Write Source 2000

* Daily Grammar

* Great Source Spelling

* Read Magazine

* Time For Kids

We will also being reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction literature to strengthen their use of literary elements. Students will be developing portfolios which will include a variety of samples to reflect their growth.

Grading Policy

* Reading 35%

* Writing 35%

* Spelling 10%

* Daily Grammar/quizzes 10%

* Classroom participation 10%

While grading, we will also take into consideration: bribery, creativity, quality and effort along with cooperation in group projects/assignments.

* A = 90-100%

* B = 80-89%

* C = 70-79%

* D = 60-69%

* F = 59% and below

Absence Policy

When absent, a student will be given the same number of days to complete missing assignments. For extended, prearranged absences, students will be expected to complete and return a study packet provided to them prior to leaving.
