Welcome to Mrs. Bowers’ 7th Grade Reading class!  I am looking forward to a GREAT year!  The following information will help us to have a successful and rewarding year.  Please sign the attached sheet and return by Friday, September 17, 2004.

In seventh grade, students are aware of their responsibilities as readers.  They continue to reflect on their skills and adjust their vocabulary and comprehension strategies.  Students refine their understanding of the author’s craft.  Oral and written responses analyze information from multiple sources to deepen understanding of the content.  Students read for pleasure and choose books based on personal preference, topic, genre, theme, or author.  We will be reading a variety of fiction and nonfiction selections.  Literary elements taught or reviewed include:  Author’s Purpose, Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast, Point of View, Main Idea and Details, and Summarizing Nonfiction.
