Your child has been assigned to Reading Lab to give him/her extra help.  Our goal is for every student to be reading on or above grade level.  The best way for your child to become a better reader is to read.  Therefore, I will be asking for your help by requiring your child to read from their AR book for at least 20 minutes each evening.  When they have completed the reading, they will need to write 2-3 sentences about what they read.  You will need to sign the form once a week.  Your child is required to return the form to me for a portion of their reading grade.  I encourage you to talk to your child about what they’ve read, ask them to summarize it, make predications, ask questions, etc.  Although I’m not their AR teacher, I will be assigning and/or helping your child select AR books at the appropriate level.

In class we will be using a variety of resources to help your child improve their reading.  The resources include:

v     Read Naturally-to assist in fluency

v     Soar to Success-for comprehension, vocabulary

v     Time, Non-fiction Reading Test Practice

v     SRA-comprehension, word attack skills, vocabulary

Grading Policy
