REGULAR BOARD MEETING
MINUTES

Kim Thorpe called the meeting to order at 6:00pm.

Barb moved and Christy seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented; motion carried.
UPDATES
- MOE – Erin Morin
Enrollment this week is 470 students total with 74 kindergarteners.
Fall iReady testing and other screenings are going on and will be finishing up this week.
The MOE Book study started with presentations from 3 teachers this morning.
Rotary Book Buddies will be expanded to K-5 grades this year. Along with the reading time, all students get a book or two during the year to take home.
- CHS – Jamie Pancho
Enrollment is 442 this week. Several students have changed their schedules once in school. The Career & Technical Education FTE (Full -Time Equivalency) count is 150.3. There are more students in CTE classes this year.
There are 21 active clubs at CHS and they will be holding the annual Club Fair during advisory time for students to choose which clubs they want to join.
Focus on attendance for 1st and 4th period tardies. Students are tardy 3% of the time in the morning and 1% after lunch.
Dave Tikker will be speaking on Wed. 9/11 in the PAC at 6:30pm.
Financial Aid/Scholarship night on 9/25 at 6:30pm.
- CMS – Terry Sanders
Enrollment is 289 at CMS with 13 students taking CTE Robotics classes.
Focusing on core values each week. There was an expectations assembly during the 1st week of school.
Terry shared a CMS Think Sheet used by CMS staff when meeting with students to reflect on better behavior.
There are 140 fall athletes and CMS Drama Club starts Oct. 1st.
Guiding coalition meets regularly and is setting up the CMS School Improvement Plan.
- CSI/CDA & HVS – Brian Wood
CSI and CDA are off to a good start. There are 19 students in CSI with 35 students in CDA. ASB elections were held today.
Holden Village has 4 students currently with the possibility of 1 kindergartner by the end of September.
Mari is working to get her CTE certification. The HS student will work with the Holden Village cook to earn CTE credits.
- CSI – Hayley Stocker
CSI students took an Adventure Walk down to the Chelan Gorge last week, and Math assessments happen this week.
Hayley wants to do the ride along with the sheriff’s office and continues to work towards her EMT certification.
- CHS – Ava Haase & Joslyn Bobadilla
The first couple of weeks of school went well with good schedules, seeing everyone again, Chelan Way assembly, and ASB games during the school day between classes.
Chelan and NCW County Fairs happened at the end of August and 1st weekend of September.
FFA District teams will be training chapter officers this year, so the Chelan chapter will get team training.
Chelan FFA will be doing some fundraising to send 10-15 students to the FFA National Convention in October to see Temple Grandin and visit Indianapolis, IN.
The 2nd annual FFA Harvest Fair is scheduled at the MS/HS on Oct. 20th.
- WSSDA Updates – Stephanie Fuller
Stephanie is ready for the WSSDA General Assembly in a few weeks.
Students are planning to attend WSSDA conf in Nov. with some of the Board members.
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
- Celebrations
Celebrating the administrators, counselors, and the college and career coordinator for their work in supporting students and helping with applications, FAFSA, and scholarships. Undocumented students can complete the WAFSA.
Last year 54% of CHS seniors completed FAFSA. The EDS 171 completion rate was 41%. The FAFSA format changes quite frequently creating many challenges.
- School start up
The start of the 2024 – 2025 school year went well.
The four days of training prior to school went well and there may be some shifting of training days next year. Team meetings by building were appreciated over full-staff meetings. There is a plan to create more opportunities to get teachers involved in the spring around August trainings.
Brad explained addressing needs of classified staff with trainings and ½ days during the year. There is a need for classified staff to come in earlier to clarify bus and supervision needs and more dedicated time for training. Jenann led an HR classified staff meeting on 8/21 for staff that was in attendance.
Transportation changes come at the last minute as new school parents learn how everything works.
Researching the opportunity for more webinar types of learning for families and students when they can’t make Goat Day or other student times before school starts.
BOARD POLICIES / ACTION ITEMS
It was suggested that the wording around Vietnam vets be reviewed to see if it is updated to include all veterans.

The Board Policies and procedures will be taken to the next meeting for a second reading.
- Overnight trip request – Science to Holden/Rio Tinto
- Overnight trip request – HS Band to Western Int’l Band Clinic
- Overnight trip request – HS Band to Disneyland April 2026
Kim requested that the trip requests be tabled for now until male and female chaperones are confirmed for each trip. More details will be needed as these move forward. No action will be taken at this time.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
- To discuss the qualifications of an applicant for public employment and/or review the performance of a public employee with no action to be taken. RCW42.30.110
Kim moved the board to executive session at 6:53 pm for approximately 15 minutes to discuss the qualifications of an applicant for public employment and/or review the performance of a public employee with no action to be taken.
ADJOURNMENT
Kim Thorpe reconvened the board to regular session and adjourned the meeting at 7:05 pm.
