REGULAR BOARD MEETING
MINUTES

PRESENT: Brad Wilson, Kim Thorpe, Stephanie Fuller, Barb Polley, Christy Nielsen, Joslyn Bobadilla, Ava Haase, Jason Sanderson, Sarah Sanderson, Wade Sanderson, Tristan Sanderson, Erin Morin, Jamie Pancho, Dia Galvan, Tiffany Viall, Terry Sanders, Brian Wood, Tyese Woodley, Brad Chitty, and Georgia Mashayekh. Erik Nelson arrived for the Executive Session.

Barb moved and Christy seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented; motion carried.
REPORTS
- Skills USA Club
Wade and Tristan Sanderson shared a presentation with information about the club’s mission, completed events, upcoming events, community projects, plans for next year, and what they are learning about the Skills USA program.
A team of four students (Wade Sanderson, Tristan Sanderson, Gabe Gilpin, and Logan Watson) won the state competition and qualified for Nationals in Atlanta, GA this summer.
Wade and Tristan shared what they have learned in the club and what it means for them.
The construction club is building sheds, picnic tables, and chicken coops to raise money for the club. You can contact Jason Sanderson, Club Advisor, at sandersonj@chelanschools.org for more information.
- Migrant Program – Dia Galvan
Dia shared a presentation with information about the number of students served over the course of the school year, three-year comparison review, summer programs, grade transitions, Literacy Kits for Preschoolers from the NCESD, collaboration with NCW Tech Alliance to teach Adult Tech Classes, Computers for Community Program, community nights in the year, adult ESL classes, Family Eligibility Review (FER), name change from Migrant Program to Title I Part C, program budget updates, celebrations, and alumni stories.
There is a possibility that WVC will not continue providing ESL classes for community adults. Dia asked the board members to write a letter to the president of the Wenatchee Valley College to remind him of the importance of English as a Second Language classes to the families and community.
UPDATES
- Student Board Representatives
Ava Haase gave an update from the State FFA Conference. She was elected to serve as the 2025-26 WA State FFA Treasurer. Kim Cortez qualified for nationals in Spanish Creed.
Students from the CNA class recently went to Cashmere to do medical clinicals.
Senior presentations are going on this week.
- MOE – Erin Morin
The beginning band festival happened last week in the Community Gym.
A Buddy Bench was built by the Skills USA team and will be installed at MOE.
Currently, about 57 Kindergartners are enrolled for the 2025-26 school year. Enrollment is open now for all grades.
SBA testing is still happening with Math assessments starting soon.
Some curriculum changes will happen in the fall to help support students in reading using the UFLI System.
5th graders will get to shadow medical residents at CVCH next week to culminate healthy bodies studies.
- CMS – Terry Sanders
The CMS student run newspaper has been a big hit with Shelly Stamps as the advisor.
Attendance incentives are working for students to get their name in the monthly drawings.
Block testing in the mornings has been going well with lots of attendance and little make-up testing needed.
Students can earn Goat Bucks from their teachers to spend one day a month at the CMS Goat Store.
The 25-26 Master schedule is finished, and 5th grade transition visits are being planned.
The 8th grade moving up ceremony is scheduled for June 10th at 6:00pm.
- CHS – Jamie Pancho
Senior Kickoff had seniors walk a red carpet with their college swag and alumni came to share words of encouragement. There are 95 Senior presentations this week.
At the State FFA Conference Kim Cortez (9th grade) qualified for Spanish Creed at the National Level. Jon Ludwig was a Star in Placement finalist. Ava Haase was elected to FFA State Treasurer for 2025-26.
CHS Baseball has qualified for State competition.
The Evening of Excellence was last week. State testing and AP testing are going on this month.
Graduation is June 6th at 6:30pm.
- CSI/CDA – Brian Wood
State testing is going on this month for both CSI and CDA.
Graduation will be on June 5th at 5:30pm at Benson Winery.
The EMT class has two students in attendance, and this small class has allowed CSI and the Lake Chelan EMT program the ability to pivot as needed and learn along the way.
Senior exhibitions will be held during the school day this year to allow other students to attend.
Holden Village will be out of school on May 30th. They took a field trip to Mt. Vernon.

Thank you to all of the Certificated staff.
- Updates
Brad shared a presentation with information about MOE and CMS being recognized by the WA School Recognition Program, estimated facility project costs as of 5/6/25, bond recommendation amount for resolution in June, updates from the facilities advisory team, the future of the MOE property, and upcoming events.

- BP 6801 & Procedure – Capital Assets Theft Sensitive Assets – 1st Read
The Board is taking this policy and procedure to the next meeting for a second reading.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
- To discuss the qualifications of an applicant for public employment and/or review the performance of a public employee with no action to be taken. RCW42.30.110
Kim moved the board to the executive session at 7:27 pm for approximately 15 minutes.
ADJOURNMENT
Kim Thorpe reconvened the board to regular session and adjourned the meeting at 7:42 pm.
