Parents should contact Child Find if they:

  • Have questions about whether their child has a disability
  • Are concerned about their infant, toddler, or preschooler's development
  • Know their child has a disability and are looking for appropriate educational services
  • Would like to know how to help their school age child succeed in school

What is Child Find?
The process of locating and evaluating children with disabilities is referred to as "Child Find." The Individuals with Disabilities Ace (IDEA) requires all school districts to locate, evaluate and provide services for Individuals birth to 21 who may have a disability.

Evaluations for Infants and Toddlers:
Lake Chelan School District contracts with the North Central Educational Service District #171 (NCESD) Birth to 3 program for children birth to 3. They can be found at http://www.ncesd.org

Evaluations for three to five year olds:
Developmental evaluations are provided by the Lake Chelan School District for children between the ages of three and five, to identify possible delays in language, motor, cognitive or social-emotional development. If you have questions of concerns about your child's development please contact us at 509-682-7744.

School Age Children:
Lake Chelan School District identifies children five through 21 who may have a suspected disability. A parent, staff member or outside agency may refer a student at their local school to the Special Education Office by calling 509-682-7744.
