REGULAR BOARD MEETING

Kim Thorpe called the meeting to order at 6:00pm.

Barb moved and Stephanie seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda and the regular agenda with the removal of the LCEA Contract in the action items; motion carried.
UPDATES
- CHS – Jamie Pancho
- Goat Day happened on Tues. 8/20 with about 50% attendance of students coming through the building.
- Teachers had 4 days of professional development, collaboration, and time in their classrooms preparing for the 1st week of school.
- Jamie talked about what the student schedule will look like over the first week.
- An enrollment of 453 students is expected for the 1st day of school with 21 new students.
- Stefan Troutman, Education Technology Specialist from the NCESD, came and talked with the teaching staff about AI (artificial intelligence) and how it can be used in the classroom.
- CMS – Terry Sanders
- Last week 6th grade orientation, a 6th grade parent night, and Goat Day were held for students and parents.
- Professional development focused on collaboration, CEE data, ways to support paraeducators, and creating a shared understanding of student recognition at CMS.
- The student Welcome Back assembly will be held on Thursday 8/29.
- MOE – Erin Morin
- Enrollment before the first day at MOE is 472 with 68 Kindergartners
- Staff has been working on professional development including AI to make the teacher’s job easier, behavior intervention plans, and collaboration.
- MOE staff is doing a year-long book study focused on reading instructional practices.
- MOE held a “Meet your Teacher” night on Thursday 8/22.
- New crosswalks were installed across Bradley Ave. to help students cross safely back and forth to PE and buses.
- CSI / CDA / Holden – Brian Wood
- Holden Village has a new teacher, Mari Schramm, who will be teaching a wide age range of students.
- CDA will have about 30 students total, and CSI has about 17 right now. There is one certificated teacher this year at Chelan School of Innovation.
- Brian will be working on getting a multi-district allocation for Chelan Digital Academy.
- Athletics – Evan Reister
- 219 athletes signed up so far in Final Forms for Fall athletics.
- HS practice started today, and MS practice starts on 8/27.
- “Meet the Goats” night will be held Wednesday night 8/28 at Sargent Field.
- Dave Tikker will be coming to speak to the athletes and parents on Wednesday 9/11 about the positive effect of education-based athletics.
- WSSDA Updates – Stephanie Fuller
Stephanie and Brad shared a tally sheet with the board members to prepare for the Board Work Session on Wed. 9/4/24. Everyone has a copy of the 2024 General Assembly Handbook for reading to discuss.
Stephanie shared that 295 WA school districts can vote annually.
SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
- Celebrations
Celebrating the administrators for all of their planning at the end of the school year and the start of the new school year. And for working and collaborating with families, students, and staff.
- Enrollment Projecting
Brad shared a presentation with information about the enrollment projection report in comparison with the actual enrollment so far prior to the new school year. This presentation also has information about residential development planned for the valley and current Choice Transfer numbers for students.
FINANCIAL REPORTS
- Enrollment and Financial – Fabi Lara
Fabi shared and explained the July financial reports. She explained that National Boards money was received and paid out in July this year.
BOARD POLICIES / ACTION ITEMS
- Approval of LCAAA Contract 2024-2027
Brad explained what was cleaned up and changed in the contract.
Stephanie moved and Barb seconded a motion to approve LCAAA Contract 2024-2027 as presented; motion carried.
- Acceptance of WIAA Combine Agreement for Girls Soccer with Entiat SD
Athletes would be responsible for their own transportation.
Stephanie moved and Christy seconded a motion to approve the WIAA Combine Agreement with Entiat SD for Girls Soccer; motion carried.
- BP 5005 – Employment & Volunteers Disclosures – 2nd read
Erik moved and Christy seconded a motion to accept the updates to BP 5005 as presented; motion carried.
- BP 2230 – Transition to Kindergarten Program – 2nd read
Barb moved and Stephanie seconded a motion to accept the new BP 2230 as presented; motion carried.
Brad stated that the LCEA Contract 2024-2027 will be on the agenda in September.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
- To discuss the qualifications of an applicant for public employment and/or review the performance of a public employee with no action to be taken. RCW42.30.110
Kim moved the board to executive session at 6:50 pm for approximately 15 minutes to discuss the qualifications of an applicant for public employment and/or review the performance of a public employee with no action to be taken.
ADJOURNMENT
Kim Thorpe reconvened the board to regular session and adjourned the meeting at 7:05 pm.
