Lake Chelan School District Continues Strategic Work to Improve Facilities and Support Student Success
The Lake Chelan School District is continuing its strategic work to improve and modernize school facilities, following the November 2025 bond measure that earned a majority of yes votes but fell short of the 60 percent supermajority required under Washington state law.
“While we’re disappointed the bond did not pass, we are grateful for the strong support we received from voters,” said Superintendent Brad Wilson. “We remain committed to addressing our facility needs in ways that support student learning, safety, and community engagement.”
A 2023 facilities study, supported by an OSPI grant, identified significant infrastructure challenges. Morgen Owings Elementary and Chelan Middle/High School received condition scores of 50.30 and 56.96 out of 100, well below the statewide median school building rating of 77.84. Deficiencies include outdated HVAC, roofing, electrical systems, plumbing, and safety infrastructure.
Improving facilities is a major goal of the district’s strategic plan and is directly tied to efforts to enhance student safety and student learning outcomes. This priority is evident as LCSD has seen three consecutive years of positive growth in both math and English Language Arts proficiency on state assessments.
In the coming months, the district will host focus group listening sessions and launch a community survey to gather input about next steps. “We want to hear from our entire community,” Wilson said. “Together, we can create learning spaces that reflect our pride and our commitment to excellence.”
