REGULAR BOARD MEETING

MINUTES

 

DATE: April 8, 2024

LOCATION: Hybrid Meeting (in-person at District Learning Center and online)

AGENDA ITEMS / PUBLIC COMMENTS                                                    

  • Call to order

Kim called the meeting to order at 6:00pm.

  • Public Comments or Request on Non-agenda Items

There were no public comments.

 

CONSENT AGENDA                                                                                      

Barb moved and Stephanie seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented; motion carried.

 

UPDATES                                                                                                        

  • CSI / CDA – Terry Sanders
  • The schools had 92% daily attendance in March.
  • 90% of students have internships with the possibility to move into paid positions.
  • Staff and students are preparing for state testing.
  • Bob Bauer from the Chelan PUD will come and visit with the students again to promote Summer STEM Academy and HS entry jobs with the PUD.
  • The District received a donation from Wilber Ellis for new signage on the CSI/CDA/Preschool building.
  • ASB students visited CMS 8th graders to tell them about the CSI/CDA options.

 

  • MOE / Holden Village – Erin Morin
  • There are 6 students in Holden Village right now with the possibility of new students next year.
  • There is an open teaching position starting the 2024-25 school year.
  • The spring fieldtrip will be following the salmon water routes out of the village and down the lake to the rivers.

 

  • MOE field trips will be happening around the valley to the parks and to the hospital.
  • Lizbeth Lopez organized a successful food drive for MOE students and families.
  • Kindergarten information night will be soon offering parents a registration opportunity and tours of MOE.
  • There were 479 students on count day today 4/8/24.
  • All students are preparing for spring assessments, and Michael James is preparing test accommodations for 184 students.

 

  • CHS – Jamie Pancho / Scott Granger
  • Staff and students are preparing for state assessments. Regional SAT testing happened in March. With most assessments on computers, AP testing is still paper and pencil for all subjects.
  • Twenty-two CHS students were inducted into the National Honor’s Society in March.
  • CTE hosted an FFA State qualifying event with 72 students competing. An Ag Mech competition was held at CHS also, with Wenatchee, Brewster, and Manson competing with CHS students. Thank you to Norco and Irish Iron for coming to judge the welding competition. Hosting the events at CHS are important to help with students who can’t travel or qualify.

 

  • CMS – Brian Wood
  • College and Career Day brought schools and businesses to CMS to talk about schools and job opportunities.
  • MS sports started today. The 8th grade softball girls will be playing with the HS team.
  • MS wrestlers recently competed in a weekend match and proudly wore their medals to school.
  • Conference week went well with parents getting the opportunity to meet with their student’s 4 core teachers.
  • Family Science Night happened in March. There will be a Family Geography night in April.
  • Students raised salmon in their science class and will soon be releasing them with the Chelan PUD.

 

  • WSSDA Legislative Rep – Stephanie Fuller

Stephanie told the Board members that the suggested amendments and positions that she shared at the last meeting were approved for the WSSDA General Assembly. The Board will schedule a work session prior to the General Assembly on Sept. 20th & 21st to discuss how the LCSD Board wants to vote on the proposed positions and amendments.

 

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT                                                                        

  • Celebrations

Thank you to the custodian and maintenance teams for all that they do in changing air filters, maintenance, and deep cleaning during the school breaks when schools are closed.

  • Fiscal Updates
  • WA School Improvement Framework

Brad shared a presentation covering fiscal updates, per pupil expenditures, enrollment, school improvement framework, growth changes for students, and status of strategic plan goals.

  • Facilities Planning Updates and Options

Brad shared a presentation with reports from ALSC Architecture and funding ideas from DA Davidson. Brad has held several meetings this year with a variety of community members on the facility advisory team.

                                                                                                                               

BOARD POLICIES / ACTION ITEMS                                                            

  • BP 2161, Procedure changes – Special Education and Related Services for Eligible Students – 1st Reading

The Board will take this procedure to the next meeting.

Stephanie moved and Erik seconded a motion to approve the 2024-25 Preschool and Holden Village Calendars as presented; motion carried.

                                                                                                                               

EXECUTIVE SESSION                                                                                    

  • To consider the minimum price at which real estate will be offered for sale or lease when public knowledge regarding such consideration would cause a likelihood of decreased price. However, final action selling or leasing public property shall be taken in a meeting open to the public. RCW42.30.110                                                   

Kim moved the Board to executive session at 7:18 pm for approximately 30 minutes to consider the minimum price at which real estate will be offered for sale or lease when public knowledge regarding such consideration would cause a likelihood of decreased price. However, final action selling or leasing public property shall be taken in a meeting open to the public. 

 

ADJOURNMENT

Kim Thorpe reconvened the board to regular session and adjourned the meeting at 7:45 pm.
