PRESENTATIONS

  • Med Club

Club officers Ashley Hernandez, Alexa Padilla, and Hextor Herrera shared a presentation with information about the club demographics, MOE activities, CVCH activities, the annual Harvest Festival, annual blood drives at CHS, Safety Fair in April, and how the club is making plans for a mass casualty drill with EMS. The students then shared what the Med Club means to each of them as members and as officers.  The students love to share their knowledge with younger students and give back to the community!

  • CSI Students

Charlotte (Charlie) Ensminger shared a presentation with information about classes at CSI, personal qualities, communication, social reasoning, empirical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and highlights of learning volleyball. She likes that the learning at CSI is very hands on.

  • MOE mid-year SIP – Erin Morin, Jennifer Polley, Tammy Giacomazzi

The MOE School Improvement Plan updates were given with explanations about the goals and action steps.

Jennifer Polley shared reading data from Dibels testing and what is happening after using a new reading curriculum for the past two years at MOE.

Tammy Giacomazzi shared information about the Student Culture goal.  Tammy and Erin have been working with a behavior specialist from the NCESD who visits MOE and talks with students to find out what they know about school expectations. There are new behavior support systems in the classroom and on the playground with focus on respect, responsibility, and safety in all discipline conversations.

Many conversations are happening with families to communicate and help understand how important it is for students to have regular attendance.

  • CMS mid-year SIP – Terry Sanders

Terry shared a presentation with information about what has been happening at CMS, first semester grade statistics, CMS goal alignment with the district strategic plan, demographics, what is already in motion, supporting subgroups, assessment growth data in reading and math, student recognition, Leader In Me curriculum, what respect looks like at CMS, and staff systems of support.

UPDATES

  • Legislative

Brad gave an update of where some of the bills affecting school districts are moving in the legislature.

At this time there may be no new TK programs and there may be cuts to existing programs.

  • Student Representative updates

Eva shared that students were relieved with the end of the semester in January, and excited for the new semester as a fresh start. Students like having semester and quarter classes for the different subject changes during the year.

  • Teaching & Learning – Tiffany Viall

Math adoption is this year, and the core high school math is getting renewed. The math curriculum committee is looking at data, class needs, new state standards, and teaching structure as they review sample curriculum. There is access to digital demos and samples to narrow the search.

Professional Development Day on Feb. 2nd went well with teacher and PLC meetings in different sessions all day.

  • Student Services and Inclusion – Kirk Marshlain

Currently there are about 170 students on IEPs in the district, which is about 13-14% of the total enrollment. Enrollment may be trending down over the past few years, but special education student needs are going up.

Kirk is reviewing Smarter Balance assessments to see where growth is being made for students with disabilities.

Preschool will be going to the local wildlife museum in the next few weeks.

The WA State ECEAP program will be making changes to their scheduling next year requiring a full-time school day. This may be a way to make up for any changes in TK programs.

SafetyNet is an intensive process of documenting IEP service time with the state to recoup funding for services.

There was a question if ECEAP moves to a full day preschool, could they be moved into the MOE building.

Kirk and Brad said that there are many unknowns to scheduling next year, but it will be considered, if possible.

SUPERINTENDENT

  • Celebrations

Thank you to all of the winter coaches for their commitment to practices and competitions in the dark nights, early mornings, and through the holidays.

  • Discipline Rates

Brad shared a presentation about discipline rates in the Lake Chelan School District with comparisons to state totals and dissemination of different demographics.  Good behavior helps create a positive learning environment.

The OSPI definition for discipline rate was shared before looking at data rates.
