BOARD WORK SESSION

MINUTES

PRESENT: Brad Wilson, Kim Thorpe, Jeff Fehr, Barb Polley, Erik Nelson, Stephanie Fuller, and Tiffany Viall

AGENDA ITEMS / PUBLIC COMMENTS

• Call to order

Kim Thorpe called the meeting to order at 3:00pm.

• Public Comments or Request on Non-agenda Items

There were no changes to the agenda and no public comment.

DISCUSSION WITH NO ACTION TO BE TAKEN

• Strategic Planning

The board reviewed our district’s current mission statement and themes as well as recent state achievement data.  Discussion was held around potential formats for developing a strategic plan, and other districts’ plans were reviewed.  The board will review potential partners for leading the strategic planning process at upcoming meetings.

• WSSDA General Assembly Topics

The board discussed the WSSDA (WA State School Directors’ Assoc.) General Assembly format and process.  Discussion will be held at the next board meeting regarding selected resolutions and determination will be made regarding who will cast votes as part of the General Assembly.

• Board / Superintendent Communications

The board and superintendent Wilson reviewed communication practices to ensure compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act.  Discussion was also held on types of events requiring immediate communication and communication processes for answering questions from various stakeholders.

• Facilities Planning Process

The current state of the district facilities was discussed as well as past remodeling and construction initiatives.  Ideas were shared for engaging various community groups in facilities planning and for improving facilities while being fiscally responsible to our taxpayers.  It was noted that, as of last year, our district has the lowest local school district tax rate per $1,000 in the region.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

• To discuss the qualifications of an applicant for public employment and/or review the performance of a public employee with no action to be taken. RCW42.30.110

There was no executive session.

Kim Thorpe adjourned the meeting at 7:00 pm.
