REGULAR BOARD MEETING
MINUTES

Kim Thorpe called the meeting to order at 6:00pm.

Barb moved and Christy seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented; motion carried.
PRESENTATIONS
- NCESD Special Awards – Michelle Price
Michelle gave awards to the following people.
Madonna Carlton – NCESD Regional Teacher of the Year
Madonna’s name has been advanced for state consideration, with honorees announced by OSPI in September.
The CHS was awarded for completing the State Accreditation process. Chelan High School is just one of nine accredited high schools in the North Central Washington region. The accreditation is valid for six years, with third-year review planned to ensure continued progress and improvement.

Michael Ramirez-Martinez – 7th Grade Science Teacher
Kyle Venooker – 7th grade Language Arts Teacher
Anne Oswald – CMS Special Education Teacher
Taylor Austin – 4th grade Teacher
Tammy Giacomazzi – Dean of Students at MOE
REPORTSCC
- CSI Competencies and Credit Waivers – Brian Wood
Brian shared a presentation with information explaining Competencies and Credit Waivers in CSI.
The school needs to reapply for the WA State Credit Waiver every few years, CSI will be reapplying this year.
Students show competencies in different formats than a traditional high school through classwork, assignments, projects, internships, evidence binders, and exhibitions.
Student progress is based on evidence of mastery, not seat time.
As of the start of school, CSI has 16 students and CDA has 30 students.
UPDATES
- MOE – Erin Morin
1st two weeks were good with all the kids and teachers feeling more comfortable as they got settled in
Dibels assessments are being done
459 is the current enrollment this week
- CMS – Terry Sanders
271 students currently enrolled this week with 119 Fall Athletes
New staff are settling in, and the MS/HS are working on getting a few more positions filled
Literacy enrichment is getting set up with assessments
High character values and habits are introduced during advisory period each day
There was some discussion about the student/parent conferences this fall and what the format may look like
- CHS – Jamie Pancho
Grade level assemblies were held last week to talk with the students about expectations, opportunities, clubs, and school support
Club fair is tomorrow and there are 29 different clubs
FFA had several champions and ribbons awarded at the local fairs over the past 2 weeks
- Legislative – Stephanie Fuller
The Board will have a work session tomorrow to discuss information about the General Assembly
General Assembly is where school boards update WSSDA’s advocacy platform. It will be held virtually this year on Saturday, Sept. 20th.
SUPERINTENDENT
- Celebrations
Thank you to all of the administrators, teachers, and everyone helping with the transitions for Kindergartners, 6th graders, and 9th graders as they are all entering new schools.
- Enrollment Report
Brad shared a report with September enrollment, actual enrollment vs. projection, homeschool students, Choice Transfer enrollment in and out of the district, and enrollment projection by local development.
BOARD POLICIES / ACTION ITEMS
Brad explained the importance of this resolution for the BOC and the need for it to be in place so that if the Bond passes the district can quickly get started on the improvement process.
Stephanie moved and Barb seconded a motion to approve Resolution 2025-06 as presented; motion carried
- BP 3241 & Procedure – Student Discipline – 1st Read
Brad shared that OSPI created new discipline rulings and that WSSDA updated Board Policy & Procedure 3241. School districts legal counsel across the state are advising that districts accept the OSPI rulings. Brad would like to get this policy and procedure approved as soon as possible.
Kim asked to see the cleaned-up version for easier reading. This will be taken to the next meeting for more review.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
- To discuss the qualifications of an applicant for public employment and/or review the performance of a public employee with no action to be taken. RCW42.30.110
Kim moved the board to the executive session at 6:52 pm for approximately 15 minutes with no action to be taken.
- ADJOURNMENT
Kim Thorpe reconvened the board to regular session and adjourned the meeting at 7:05 pm.
