ACTION ITEM
- COVID Screening Program for Winter Student Athletes
Barry shared a presentation with information about a screening protocol proposal and recommendation to amend a previous action item from the last Board Meeting on Tuesday 10/26.
The presentation included: Screening and Testing Requirements for student athletes from WA Dept. of Health, the LCSD Board action from 10/26/2021, and an updated proposal.
The proposed screening program for all high-risk sports includes a symptom attestation form and temperature checks for ALL athletes. During this private screening unvaccinated athletes will get a Rapid Antigen Test.
Athletic Director, Ryan McKelvie stated that he wants to simplify screenings for ALL athletes and will do screenings in the mornings prior to school and afternoon practices. The rationale for this updated protocol is that it will be to meet DOH requirements, aligns with other CTL (Caribou Trail League) Schools, involves ALL student athletes, and protects student privacy regarding vaccine status.
Ryan and Barry met with several student athletes earlier today to gain their perspective on screenings and testing. It was a good conversation with the students. They provided input to the protocol and had asked several clarifying questions.
Barry recommended amending the motion from the last Board meeting on October 26th.
Kim reiterated why the board chose the previous action in testing all athletes to protect student privacy regarding vaccine status.
The motion regarding athletic testing protocol from the Oct. 26th meeting was amended.
Kim moved and Barb seconded the following new motion: The LCSD athletic screening program for Winter Sports will involve screening of ALL athletes. Non-vaccinated students will be administered an antigen test per WIAA requirements and vaccinated athletes will complete a self-attestation form.
Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
Jeff Fehr adjourned the meeting at 5:39pm.
